YOUR HOST:

Suzanne M. Swain, EDS LMSW is a multi-award winning middle school educator & school-based therapist with over 20 years of experience supporting students, teachers, and families.

She specializes in neurodivergency, school sociology, & emotional learning for middle school students, with a focus on critical thinking — teaching kids how to understand their emotions, think through reactions, and make better decisions in school and in life.

Suzanne has worked as a middle school teacher, administrator, school librarian, professor, and licensed master social worker. Her work blends social-emotional learning (SEL), education, and practical classroom strategies that actually work in real schools.

Often described as a middle school Mary Poppins, Suzanne believes students don’t need perfection — they need adults who understand how emotions impact learning, behavior, and relationships.

Her resources are designed for:

  • Middle school teachers
  • Parents of tweens and teens
  • School counselors and therapists
  • Administrators and support staff

This site offers emotional learning tools, lessons, and insights for anyone working with middle school students who feel overwhelmed, disengaged, or misunderstood.

TEACHER & THERAPIST

Emotional Learning for Middle School

I help schools and families teach emotional skills alongside academics — including emotional regulation, self-awareness, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Support for Teachers and Parents

My work supports adults who are burned out, stuck, or searching for better ways to reach middle school kids without shame-based discipline or one-size-fits-all programs.
